Why use Simple Affiliate instead of an external affiliate network?

Because the best affiliates for most stores are people already in their orbit: customers, creators, business partners. An external network typically charges fees on referred sales for access to its publisher pool and keeps affiliates on the network's own domain. If you don't need that pool, you're paying for recruitment you don't use and parking the relationship somewhere else.

Simple Affiliate keeps the whole program attached to your Shopify store. Affiliates, referrals, commissions, and customer relationships stay yours, and the customer experience stays on your domain.

What staying in-house looks like

Affiliates join and work through your store rather than a separate network account, signing in with your store's Shopify customer accounts. New customer accounts use Shopify's customer-account area; classic accounts use a branded dashboard page on your theme. You control the groups, referral links, commissions, and program communication, and your team owns the program terms, commission decisions, and payout policies. Tracking and affiliate activity stay connected to your Shopify operation, which is one less partnership stack to run.

Attribution works through referral links with a tracking code such as sacode, optional UTM parameters, and unique discount codes. On the Pro plan, connected customers can stay associated with an affiliate after the customer's first referred purchase when that feature is enabled. You manage the program from the Simple Affiliate and Shopify workflow; affiliates handle their side in the affiliate dashboard.

The cost comparison

No network referral fee. You don't hand a percentage of referred sales to an external network; your costs are the Simple Affiliate subscription and any applicable Autopay processing fees. The affiliate always receives the full commission, and with Autopay the merchant pays the processing fee on top rather than out of the commission. Eligible U.S. affiliates may also access issued 1099-K or 1099-NEC forms from their dashboard when IRS volume and threshold requirements apply.

When a network is the better call

When your main requirement is the network's existing publisher marketplace or its recruitment tools. Simple Affiliate is built for merchants who want to own and operate the program through their own store.

Before deciding, compare four things: whether you'll recruit from existing customers and partners or need a network to source affiliates; whether affiliates and customer relationships stay connected to your store; network referral fees against your subscription plus any payout processing fees; and whether keeping tracking, affiliate access, and payouts close to Shopify makes support simpler for your team and your affiliates.
