Affiliate marketing 101: What makes a good affiliate post?

July 29, 2025

So you’ve kicked off your affiliate marketing program, and a number of influencers have been onboarded. Now, it’s time for them to promote your business. But how exactly do they do that? Here are some helpful tips so your new affiliates can crush it every time.

Why start an affiliate marketing program?

To put it simply, affiliate marketing is bigger than ever. People like purchasing products that come with a vote of confidence. So when a brand can work with an influencer to deliver a great promotion, everyone wins.

Not only do affiliates bring in new revenue, but they also increase brand awareness and help brands expand their market research. Plus, working with affiliates is cost-effective for any business. Your affiliates typically get paid only when a sale is made through their unique affiliate link.

Common strategies for recruiting

So, how do you get affiliates to flock to your program? There are a number of ways you could go about recruiting. Effective strategies include running an internal campaign to attract current customers, searching social media, or joining an affiliate network.

Make sure the influencers you reach out to have an audience that aligns with your Ideal Customer Profile (ICP). When their followers are also your potential customers, it translates to new revenue.

Making an effective affiliate post: 5 tips

1. The most important thing? Keep it authentic

Whether your affiliate is a blogger or a TikToker, their affiliate posts should feel like them. If they typically post Instagram carousels, maybe a long LinkedIn spiel wouldn’t quite resonate.

That one might be obvious. But also consider having them use their regular brand voice to keep things authentic. Their shooting style, their verbiage, and their captions should feel like them. Nothing stops affiliate marketing in its tracks faster than an influencer who reads like a sellout. Work with influencers who remain authentic, suit your product nicely, and can promote you from a place of passion.

2. Try a review

One of the most tried and true ways of promoting a product in an authentic way? A good ol’ fashioned review. Reviews can be executed in a variety of ways, including:

  • Unboxings: People love to watch influencers open packages and try out products for the first time. It’s just like Christmas.
  • Get ready with me: Influencers often add product reviews and recommendations to their “morning routine” type of content.
  • The thorough breakdown: Affiliates dive deep into the specs and features of a brand’s product, discussing what they like, how they use it, and how it has improved their day-to-day.

The majority of online shoppers these days hesitate to make a purchase or subscribe without first checking reviews. The more glowing review content a brand can produce, the better.

3. Be transparent about the partnership

Like we said earlier, a customer can sense inauthenticity from a mile away. One way to avoid that is to have your affiliates be transparent. Your affiliates know, of course, that they have to adhere to disclosure laws, but if they outright say they partner with a brand? Even better.

Because, much like reviews, being transparent works with audiences because there’s already a sense of trust there. An influencer’s audience already supports them, so the more overt they are about working with a brand, the more that love and trust are going to translate to conversions.

4. Incentivize the audience to purchase

One thing an audience wants more than anything is to be noticed by their favorite influencer. Of course, not every influencer has the capacity to have a one-on-one conversation with everyone. But, for a limited time, they should show some appreciation in a more direct way. Incentivizing audiences to purchase in exchange for a shout-out could be very impactful. This could look like:

  • “Send me a screenshot of a hoodie you purchased so I can ‘like’ it!”
  • “Let me know if you bought from [brand] so we can gush about it in the DMs!”

Or they could simply start reposting verified customers on their stories, for thousands to see. Recognition plus a new purchase is a win-win for the influencer and the fan.

5. Post routinely, but refresh the angle

The more your affiliate posts, the more sales they’ll make. But, posting the exact same thing constantly? That’s a quick way to make everyone sick of you. When it comes to repeat posting, it’s best practice to change the angle and keep the content fresh.

For example, if in the first post, an affiliate films an unboxing of a new candle brand, in the second post, the same candles from the brand are showcased in an apartment tour. The more creatively and subtly affiliates can plug your brand, the more enticing it will seem to their audience over time.
